Last weekend, I was back on the Veluwe. During a morning walk with my dog, I spotted two beautiful fragile mushrooms growing by the roadside. Of course, I couldn’t resist photographing them! So get ready, because I’m going to spam you with four different ways of capturing these tiny mushrooms!

This first image is an in-camera multiple exposure. By combining a cool white balance with the rich, warm autumn colours, I ended up with a wonderfully cheerful colour palette!

Afgelopen weekend was ik opnieuw op de Veluwe. Tijdens een ochtendwandeling met de hond ontdekte ik twee prachtige hazenpootjes in de berm. Natuurlijk kon ik het niet laten om ze te fotograferen! Dus bereid je maar voor, want ik ga jullie compleet spammen met vijf verschillende manieren om deze kleine paddenstoeltjes vast te leggen!

Deze eerste foto is een meervoudige belichting, gemaakt in de camera. Door te spelen met een koele witbalans en de warme, intense herfstkleuren ontstond een heerlijk vrolijk kleurenpalet!

The colours are so soft and beautiful that I just had to photograph the flower in the same dreamy way. I chose my vintage Helios lens with two extension tubes and a close-up filter. It doesn't get much softer than that! This is a single exposure, so no multiple exposure this time.

De kleuren zijn zo zacht en prachtig dat ik de bloem gewoon op dezelfde dromerige manier moest fotograferen. Ik koos voor mijn vintage Helioslens met twee tussenringen én een voorzetlens. Veel zachter wordt het bijna niet! Dit is trouwens één enkele opname, dus deze keer geen meervoudige belichting.

An explosion of colour!!

Dahlias have such gorgeous colours, especially when they have a beautiful yellow-orange centre. For this photo, I used in-camera multiple exposure, deliberately keeping both images out of focus. Instead of creating a recognisable image, I wanted to play with textures, colours and softness. The result? A dreamy explosion of colour!

Kleurexplosie!!

Dahlia's hebben zulke prachtige kleuren, zeker als ze ook nog eens een geel-oranje hartje hebben. Voor deze foto gebruikte ik meervoudige belichting in de camera, waarbij ik beide opnames bewust onscherp maakte. In plaats van een herkenbaar beeld koos ik voor een spel van structuren, kleuren en zachtheid. Het resultaat? Een dromerige explosie van kleur!

Dahlias might just be some of the most beautiful flowers you can grow in the
Netherlands. This year, I decided I wanted them in my garden. And I have to say, they are absolutely gorgeous!

They won't be coming back next year, so I thought I'd better capture their beauty while I still can. Armed with my macro lens and vintage Helios lens, I dove into these stunning flowers. This time, I decided to go for a dreamy, almost completely out-of-focus look. Sometimes, less detail creates more magic.

Dahlia's zijn misschien wel een van de mooiste bloemen die je in Nederland kunt kweken. Dit jaar besloot ik dat ik ze ook in mijn tuin wilde hebben. En eerlijk is eerlijk, wat zijn ze prachtig!

Volgend jaar komen ze niet meer terug, dus vond ik dat ik hun schoonheid toch echt even moest vastleggen. Gewapend met mijn macrolens en vintage Helioslens dook ik diep in deze schitterende bloemen. Dit keer koos ik voor een dromerige sfeer, waarbij de foto's bijna helemaal onscherp zijn. Soms zorgt juist het ontbreken van details voor een beetje extra magie.

Of all places… during my photowalk for CameraNU on

Of all places… during my photowalk for CameraNU on an industrial estate in Apeldoorn, I suddenly spotted a Common Blue. I hadn’t photographed a single butterfly all year, so of course I quickly took a shot before letting the participants have their turn.

I had to clean it up a little afterwards and decided to give it a much cooler white balance.

And yes… I can safely say this is my most beautiful butterfly of the year. 😂 It’s also my only one… hahaha.

Uitgerekend tijdens mijn photowalk voor @cameranu_nl op een industrieterrein in Apeldoorn, zag ik ineens een icarusblauwtje. Ik had het hele jaar nog geen vlinder gefotografeerd, dus natuurlijk maakte ik snel een foto voordat de deelnemers hun gang mochten gaan.

Achteraf moest ik nog wel wat wegpoetsen en ik besloot de witbalans lekker koel te maken.

En ja… ik kan met gemak zeggen dat dit mijn mooiste vlindertje van het jaar is. 😂 Het is namelijk ook mijn enige… hahaha

Normally, I’m not really into capturing a perfectly sharp little creature sitting on a mushroom or flower. But this one literally flew straight into my setting, so what else could I do?

I started with a wider composition and gradually moved in closer. And it probably won’t surprise you that this close-up ended up being my favourite.

Because I was shooting so close, the bokeh circles in the background disappeared. So I photographed them separately with a cooler white balance and added them to the image using multiple exposure.

Normaal gesproken ben ik niet zo van het haarscherp registreren van een beestje op een paddenstoel of bloem. Maar deze vloog letterlijk mijn setting in, dus ja… toen moest ik wel.

Ik begon met een totaalbeeld en ging daarna steeds dichterbij. En het zal je waarschijnlijk niet verbazen dat juist deze close-up uiteindelijk mijn favoriet werd.

Doordat ik zo dichtbij fotografeerde, verdwenen de bokehbollen uit de achtergrond. Daarom fotografeerde ik ze apart met een koelere witbalans en voegde ze door middel van meervoudige belichting toe aan het beeld.
