Last weekend, my husband and I went away for one last weekend with our rooftop tent. It’s now off the car until next spring!
Our destination was the Veluwe, because it was so beautiful when I visited two weeks ago that I just had to go back. We found a lovely campsite right on the edge of the forest. For two mornings, I got up early, hopped on my bike and cycled through the woods in search of beautiful scenes to photograph.
The wildlife wasn't particularly cooperative, but there were stunning views, peace and quiet, and plenty of mushrooms!
This fly agaric was more orange than red, but still absolutely gorgeous. So I decided to spend some time getting creative with it.
The second photo is a single exposure, with lovely textures and a beautifully blurred foreground. The first is a multiple exposure.
I love them both and, as usual, I just couldn't choose! The first one wins me over with its colours, while the second is all about those gorgeous textures and natural tones.

Afgelopen weekend was ik samen met mijn man een laatste weekendje weg met de daktent. Deze is nu weer van de auto af tot volgend voorjaar. De Veluwe was de bestemming want daar was het zo mooi twee weken geleden dat ik terug wilde. We vonden een camping aan de bosrand. Twee ochtenden stond ik vroeg op om op de fiets lekker door het bos te fietsen op zoek naar mooie plaatjes. Het wild liet zich niet zo goed zien, maar er waren wel prachtige uitzichten, rust en paddenstoelen. Deze vliegenzwam was meer oranje dan rood, maar nog steeds prachtig. Dus ik besloot er werk van te maken. De tweede foto is een one shot, met heerlijke structuren en een vervaagde voorgrond. De eerste foto is een meervoudige belichting. Ik vind ze beide mooie en kon zoals gewoonlijk weer niet kiezen. 1 is mooi vanwege de kleuren, 2 vanwege de structuren en de natuurlijke tinten.

Another double exposure… and a wonderfully dreamy one. I absolutely love this one.
I sprayed the heather with water and used all those tiny droplets to create beautiful bokeh, while searching for interesting shapes and structures.
First, I created the lower part of the image, with those lovely shadows appearing inside the bokeh circles. The top was still a little too plain for me, so I added another little flower there to finish it off.
Is anything actually sharp? Nope.
Do I care? Nope… hahaha!
I just love looking at it. And sometimes, that’s all a photograph needs to do.

Ook dit is een dubbele belichting… en gelijk een heerlijk dromerige. Ik ben er dol op.
Ik spoot de heide nat en profiteerde van de kleine druppeltjes die voor die heerlijke bokeh zorgen. Ondertussen zocht ik naar mooie vormen en structuren.
Eerst creëerde ik de onderkant van het beeld, met die fijne schaduwen in de bokehbollen. De bovenkant vond ik nog wat te egaal, dus daar plaatste ik nog een bloemetje in om het beeld af te maken.
Is er iets scherp? Nee.
Boeit mij dat? Nee… hahaha!
Ik kijk er gewoon heel graag naar. En soms is dat precies genoeg.

So there I was at home with my two little heather plants… and the photos from the weekend still on my memory card.
And suddenly I thought: I completely forgot to make a double exposure on the heath! Such a missed opportunity.
But then again… why couldn’t I still make one?
I picked one of my landscape photos from the heath as the base image and combined it in-camera with an intentional camera movement shot of my little heather plants. And somehow, I ended up with exactly the dreamy effect I had wanted to create out there.
So, all’s well that ends well.
It turned into this soft, pink, almost cotton-candy-like world. Honestly… don’t you just want to dive right into it?

Dus daar zat ik thuis met mijn twee heideplantjes… en de foto’s van het weekend nog op mijn geheugenkaartje.
En ineens dacht ik: ik ben helemaal vergeten om op de heide een dubbele belichting te maken! Gemiste kans.
Maar ja… waarom zou dat thuis niet alsnog kunnen?
Ik koos een van mijn landschapsfoto’s van de heide als basis en combineerde die in de camera met een bewogen opname van mijn heideplantjes. En eigenlijk ontstond precies dat dromerige effect dat ik op de heide had willen maken.
Dus: eind goed, al goed.
Het is een zachte, roze, bijna suikerspinachtige wereld geworden. Zeg nou zelf… hier wil je toch gewoon even induiken?

That misty morning on the heath, I also had two macro photography photowalks planned later that day.
I honestly wasn’t sure beforehand if we would find enough interesting subjects around the industrial area where @cameranu_nl is located. But right there in the street was a small patch of wildflowers. A few were still blooming, although the faded ones actually turned out to be the most photogenic.
Just to be safe, I had bought two little heather plants at the local supermarket. In the end, I didn’t need them at all.
But when I got home, I looked at them and thought… this heather is actually way too beautiful to ignore. So out came the macro lens, and I dove right in to capture the heather in my own creative way.
Sometimes inspiration is simply waiting for you at home.

Op die mistige ochtend op de heide stonden er later die dag ook nog twee photowalks macrofotografie op het programma.
Vooraf wist ik eerlijk gezegd niet of we op het industrieterrein waar @cameranu_nl gevestigd is wel genoeg interessante onderwerpen zouden vinden. Maar gewoon in die straat lag een veldje waar nog wat bloemetjes stonden. Een paar bloeiden nog, maar juist de uitgebloeide bloemen bleken eigenlijk het meest fotogeniek.
Voor de zekerheid had ik bij de lokale supermarkt twee kleine heidestruikjes gekocht. Uiteindelijk helemaal niet nodig.
Maar eenmaal thuis keek ik ernaar en dacht ik… die heide is eigenlijk veel te mooi om niets mee te doen. Dus de macrolens erop en er lekker ingedoken om de heide op mijn eigen creatieve manier vast te leggen.
Soms ligt de inspiratie gewoon thuis op je te wachten.

The mist had almost disappeared when this stag started walking towards the hinds, already showing off a little. I think he’s secretly warming up for the rutting season.
For now, the ladies seem to be looking at him like: “Calm down, mate…” But I’m pretty sure they’ll feel differently about that in a few weeks.
And that little strip of purple heather behind the deer? A very welcome bonus.

De mist was bijna opgetrokken toen deze geweidrager richting de hindes liep en alvast een beetje begon uit te sloven. Volgens mij is hij zich stiekem aan het warmdraaien voor de bronsttijd.
De hindes kijken hem voorlopig nog een beetje aan van: “Maak je niet zo druk joh…” Maar goed, over een paar weken denken ze daar vast héél anders over.
En dat strookje paarse heide achter de herten? Dat was dan weer mooi meegenomen.

Three hinds, just chilling in that gorgeous warm morning light on a beautiful Saturday morning in early September. Sometimes you really don’t need much more.
For me, the light makes this image. That one beautiful beam of warm light hitting exactly the right spot… love it!
The only problem? Every single deer refused to take even one step into that beam of light. I tried telepathy. Didn’t work either. 😂
Oh well… you can’t have everything.

Drie hindes, lekker aan het chillen in dat prachtige warme ochtendlicht op een mooie zaterdagochtend begin september. Soms heb je eigenlijk niet veel meer nodig.
Het licht maakt voor mij deze foto. Die ene warme lichtstraal precies op de juiste plek… heerlijk!
Alleen jammer dat werkelijk ieder edelhert weigerde om ook maar één stap die lichtstraal in te zetten. Ik heb het geprobeerd met telepathie, maar ook dat werkte niet. 😂
Ach ja… je kunt niet alles hebben.
