A little flower, two approaches. The possibilities are endless. The first photo is a double exposure, the second a single shot. I absolutely love taking my time to explore compositions and then seeing if I can make an image even more interesting by adjusting small details.
I’m happy with both results, by the way, I don’t have a preference. Do you?

Een bloemetje twee benaderingen. De mogelijkheden zijn eindeloos. De eerste foto is een dubbele belichting, de tweede een enkele foto. Ik vind het zo heerlijk om lekker op het gemak te zoeken naar composities en vervolgens te kijken of je een foto nog interessanter kunt maken, door kleine dingen aan te passen.
Ik ben overigens blij met beide resultaten, ik heb geen voorkeur. Jij wel?

Suddenly I spotted a completely orange ladybug, or as we say in Rotterdam, a “kapoentje.” Of course I couldn’t just let that pass. This one was photographed with a regular macro lens. Isn’t it adorable?

Ineens zag ik een volledig oranje lieveheersbeestje of zoals wij in Rotterdam zeggen “kapoentje”. Dat kon ik natuurlijk niet laten gaan. Deze is wel met de gewone macrolens gefotografeerd. Is het geen schatje?

Two more shots taken with a vintage Helios lens. It’s an old Russian lens with a “flaw.” Thanks to this flaw, it creates beautifully soft, dreamy images.
I don’t use the lens nearly enough, but seeing these photos really makes me want to take it out more often again.

Nog twee foto’s geschoten met een vintage helios lensje. Dit is een oud Russisch lensje met een “fout”. Dankzij deze fout krijg je mooie zachte dromerige foto’s.
Ik gebruik de lens veel te weinig, maar na het zien van deze foto’s gaat het toch kriebelen om hem weer vaker mee te nemen.

If you come across pink/purple wood anemones, you simply can’t just walk past them. For the occasion, I dusted off my little Helios lens again and used it to capture this beautifully soft photo.

Als je dan roze/paarse bosanemoontjes vindt dan kun je daar natuurlijk niet voorbij lopen. Voor de gelegenheid haalde ik mijn helios lensje weer eens uit het stof en daarmee schoot ik deze heerlijke zachte foto.

This is the same wood anemone as in the previous photograph, approached once again through the gentle layering of multiple exposures. Yet there is a subtle difference. In this image, the sun caresses the flower softly, while in the earlier one I tempered the light with an umbrella. That method is usually my preference for its delicate softness, and still, here the natural light works beautifully. The sun was veiled behind a thin curtain of clouds at just the right moment, otherwise the light would have been far too harsh.
Once again, a warm wash of pink and orange, with a clear and graceful subject at its heart. I feel a deep, quiet joy whenever I succeed in creating images like this. Pure delight.

Dit is hetzelfde bosanemoontje als in de vorige foto, ook met ongeveer dezelfde benadering met meervoudige belichting. Maar er is een verschil. Bij deze foto schijnt de zon zachtjes op de bloem, bij de vorige heb ik het licht gefilterd met een paraplu. Dat laatste heeft meestal mijn voorkeur vanwege de zachtheid en toch werkt het hier heel goed. Dat komt ook omdat de zon op dat moment achter wat sluierbewolking zat anders had het veel te fel geweest. Wederom een lekker roze/oranje plaatje met een duidelijk hoofdonderwerp. Ik word dolgelukkig als het mij lukt om zulke foto’s te schieten. Heerlijk echt.

I photographed this delightful explosion of color

I photographed this delightful explosion of color last Monday in Oegstgeest. They are white wood anemones captured in a triple exposure. It is so much fun to discover how you can play with softness, structure, and color simply by getting to know your camera better and learning how to combine images. On Tuesday, June 16, I will be giving the final workshop on the subject of multiple exposure of this spring season. That workshop will take place in Utrecht.

Deze heerlijke kleurexplosie fotografeerde ik afgelopen maandag in Oegstgeest. Het zijn witte bosanemoontjes in een driedubbele belichting. Het is zo leuk om te ontdekken hoe je kunt spelen met zachtheid en structuur en kleur door simpelweg je camera beter te leren kennen en te leren hoe je beelden samen kunt voegen. Op dinsdag 16 juni geef ik de laatste workshop over het onderwerp meervoudige belichting van dit voorjaarsseizoen. Die workshop is in Utrecht.
