When I took this photo, I literally had a crab han

When I took this photo, I literally had a crab hanging onto my heel… but hey, I wasn’t going to let that scare me away.
I really wanted to include the little snails on the rocks in my shot. While working on the composition, I spotted a pretty big crab and thought, hey, he’d actually make a nice addition to the scene.
Then he started moving and I thought, oh well… he’s probably more scared of me than I am of him.
Yeah… apparently not.
Mr. Crab decided to make a run straight for my flip-flop and have a little taste of my very modest size 42 left foot. I felt something tickling my heel, looked down and… yep. Mr. Crab.
After a tiny scream- very calm and collected, obviously, he carried on his way and I finally managed to take this photo.

Beautiful sunset, isn’t it? Haha!
Although I’m pretty sure you’re not even looking at the sunset anymore after reading this story…

Toen ik deze foto maakte hing er een krab in mijn hiel... maar vooruit, ik heb mij toch niet weg laten jagen. Ik wilde de slakjes op de rotsen graag mee fotograferen. Toen ik de compositie maakte zag ik een flinke krab zitten en ik dacht, hé die zou leuk zijn in mijn beeld. Maar toen ging hij lopen en ik dacht ach... die is banger voor mij dan ik voor hem. Maar nee hoor... hij vond het toch nodig om op mijn slipper af te rennen en eens te voelen aan mijn bescheiden maat 42 linkervoet. Ik dacht wat kriebelt daar en het was meneer Krabs... na een klein gilletje rende hij door en maakte ik alsnog deze foto.

Mooie zonsondergang trouwens he... haha! Je bent totaal afgeleid nu natuurlijk door dit verhaal.

Our holiday cottage in Denmark was less than a five-minute walk from the Limfjord. The first week of our holiday was wild and refreshingly cool, which honestly felt like such a relief after the heatwave back home in the Netherlands.
The unsettled weather also brought some incredible skies, especially around sunset. So I grabbed my camera, tripod and filters and headed to the little harbour close to our cottage.
A gap in the clouds created just the right amount of drama in the sky, giving me about half an hour to enjoy myself with my camera. And less than fifteen minutes later, I was back at the cottage, warm and cosy on the sofa.
Could it get any better than that?

Ons vakantiehuisje in Denemarken stond op nog geen 5 minuten lopen van het Limfjord. De eerste week van onze vakantie was onstuimig en fris, wat na de hittegolf in Nederland echt een verademing was. Het onstuimige weer zorgde ook nog eens voor prachtige wolkenluchten, zeker tegen de zonsondergang aan. Dus pakte ik mijn camera, statief en filters en reed naar het haventje vlakbij ons huis. Het gat in de wolken zorgde voor wat spektakel en ik kon zo ongeveer een half uurtje lekker mijn gang gaan om nog geen kwartier later weer warm op de bank te zitten. Ideaal toch gewoon?

Along the North Sea coast of Jutland, Denmark, it’s a long-standing tradition to pull the fishing boats directly onto the beach using a cable system.

We were lucky enough to see it happen right in front of us. On the beach, you can clearly see the tracks left behind by the cables and the boats as they’re pulled across the sand.
And from a photographer’s point of view, it was such a great scene to capture. There’s something incredibly photogenic about these fishing boats resting on the beach, with the wide-open North Sea and endless coastline as their backdrop.
Definitely one of those typical Danish coastal scenes I was very happy to photograph!

Aan de Noordzee kust in Denemarken, Jutland, is het een traditie om de vissersboten op het strand te slepen met een kabelsysteem. We mochten het live aanschouwen. Op het strand zie je heel goed de sporen van de kabels en de boten lopen. Het was sws een zeer fotogeniek beeld om de bootjes op het strand te zien liggen.

Dolphins in Denmark, I definitely didn’t see that

Dolphins in Denmark, I definitely didn’t see that one coming!
But there they were. Three of them, believed to have made their way over from Scotland. They seem to be perfectly happy near the North Sea entrance to the Limfjord, where there’s plenty of fish for the three of them to thrive.
We booked a boat trip to see if we could find them. And yes… we did! We were lucky enough to spend quite some time watching them.
The sunset that evening was absolutely spectacular. The only problem? The dolphins kept appearing on the “wrong” side of the boat! But that certainly didn’t spoil the fun. A few times I managed to capture them with that beautiful pink sky in the background — and that made it even more special.
One thing is for sure: we absolutely loved every minute of it!

Dolfijnen in Denemarken, die zag ik niet aankomen. Maar ze waren er wel. Drie stuks die wss overgezwommen zijn vanuit Schotland. Ze hebben het prima naar hun zin bij de Noordzee ingang van het Limfjord. Er zit voldoende vis voor de drie om er goed te gedijen.
Wij boekten een boottocht om te kijken of we ze konden vinden. En ja hoor... we mochten goed van ze genieten. De zonsondergang was echt spectaculair, alleen doken de dolfijnen steeds op aan de "verkeerde" kant van de boot. Maar dat mag de pret niet lukken. Het lukte wel om een paar keer de roze lucht erachter te krijgen.
We hebben sws genoten.

Woon jij in de omgeving van Apeldoorn en houd je van fotografie? Dan heb ik iets leuks voor je!

Aanstaande zaterdag 12 september staan er tijdens de Experience Days van CameraNu in Apeldoorn twee photowalks op het programma. En ik mag jullie meenemen in mijn favoriete wereld: die van de macrofotografie!

Tijdens de photowalk laat ik je graag zien hoe ik naar kleine details kijk en hoe je van iets heel gewoons een bijzondere foto kunt maken. Geen lange wandeling waarbij we vooral kilometers maken, maar juist lekker veel tijd om samen in de praktijk aan de slag te gaan. We zoeken in de buurt een geschikte plek op waar genoeg te ontdekken en te fotograferen valt.

Je kunt tijdens de wandeling natuurlijk al je vragen stellen. Het maakt daarbij niet uit hoeveel ervaring je hebt met macrofotografie: ik probeer je op jouw eigen niveau verder te helpen en vooral te inspireren om anders te kijken.

Ik vind het ontzettend leuk om mijn passie voor macrofotografie met jullie te mogen delen. En ik waarschuw je alvast… de kans is groot dat je na deze photowalk nóg meer wilt ontdekken over macrofotografie!

Wie zie ik zaterdag in Apeldoorn? Oh ja, het wordt perfect weer voor de photowalk, dus aarzel niet en meld je aan!

Drone photos, they just make me so happy!
These two were taken by my husband. He absolutely loves flying the drone, but he never looks at the results afterwards! I honestly can’t imagine that. But I have to say… I think these turned out beautifully.
In the first photo, I really love the sea and the atmosphere it creates. And in the second, I love seeing how this tiny, idyllic spot is tucked away so beautifully among the endless dunes.
Curious where this is?
It’s Denmark, Jutland, to be precise, right on the North Sea coast. And yes… the North Sea really does look quite different here compared to the Dutch coast!

Dronefoto's, ik word er toch erg blij van.

Deze twee zijn door mijn man gemaakt. Hij vind het erg leuk om te vliegen, maar kijkt nooit naar de resultaten! Daar kan ik mij dus niets bij voorstellen. Maar ik moet zeggen, ik vind ze mooi. Bij de eerste vind ik de zee erg fijn, bij de tweede is het mooi om te zien hoe dit kleine idyllische plekje mooi verscholen ligt in de eindeloze duinen. Ben je benieuwd waar dit is??
Het is Denemarken, Jutland om precies te zijn aan de Noordzee. Tja en dan ziet die Noordzee er toch echt anders uit dan aan de Nederlandse kust.
